This large hardcover book is filled with beautiful illustrations and clever rhymes from the south. It was created and arranged by Francis P. Wightman with illustrations by the author. Published in New York in 1899 by J.F. Taylor and Company.
Here's a rhyme from the book:
"Frog en de mud-puddle,
Watchin' de owl,
Owl in de simmon bush,
Watchin' de fowl.
Fowl en de bawn-yawd,
Watchin' de cat,
Cat en de pig-pen,
Watchin' de rat.
Rat he ben teefin,
Nebber see cat.
Cat jump de pig-tail,
swolla de rat!"
This book makes a perfect addition to a home library collection!
This hardcover illustrated book is in very good vintage condition - especially since it is 116 years old. The hardcover has edge wear, as shown, and what appears to be pencil marks on the cover. The binding is intact and the pages are still attached to the book (they are stapled to the hardboard). The first inside page has an inscription written on it "To Babs From Daddy June 20, 1918" Some of the pages inside the book have come loose from the staple near the bottom of the book. There are a few pages that have small tears, and two pages that have larger tears in them, as shown in the last photo. There is no writing on the pages, and they are in good condition, as shown.
